When requesting an allocation on the ARDC Nectar Research Cloud you can now select a Resource Bundle. The Standard, Powerful and Extreme resource bundles come with a pre-selected quantity of computing resources. For information on the resource bundle options, please view the below summary titled What are the Resource Bundle options? (more detail is provided in our Resource Bundle Table support article). If you need to do more advanced tasks or require more resources, we also provide the option to select custom values for each quantity.

In this article, we demonstrate the process of Selecting a Resource Bundle, and include answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).

What are the Resource Bundle options?

The below table is a summary of the resource bundle options. For more details on the quantities included in each Resource Bundle, please read our Resource Bundle Table support article.

A standard resource bundle suitable for researchers wanting extra compute power, similar to a personal computer, to host a simple web application or run basic computations.A more powerful bundle of compute resources for researchers wanting to run more demanding computations or host more complex web applications. An extra powerful bundle of compute resources for long running, large-scale computations or web applications. For advanced cloud users with a specific set of resource requirements. Users must understand resource limits and be able to estimate their requested Service Unit (SU) budget using the methods suggested in the guide on how to estimate a Service Unit Budget.

Selecting a Resource Bundle

You can select your desired resource bundle in "STEP 2: Cloud resources" of the Allocation Request form. If you select the Custom Resource Bundle, a window will open for you to specify your requested resource limits. For more information on custom resources, please read our articles on Resources available to you, and follow the links provided in the Resource Bundle Table

In the following step of the Allocation Request form, you can specify Location Specific Resources.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

When and why were resource bundles released?
Resource bundles went live in late March 2024. This update greatly simplifies the process of choosing the type and size of the cloud resources you want. Previously, users had to individually specify the quantity of each particular cloud resource such as compute, object storage and networking. This was difficult, especially for new users who do not know exactly how much resource to request and how these resources work together.

What happens if I have an existing project with cloud resource quantities I selected?

A resource bundle will be automatically selected to match or exceed the resources you previously selected. You will not lose any resources, as the automatic selection will be greater than or equal to your existing allocation.

Can I see the details of each resource bundle?

Yes, details are provided in the Resource Bundle Table support article.

What if I want to change my resource bundle?

   Submit an allocation amendment request.

Can I select any resource bundle?

Yes. Our team will still assess the suitability of your selection to your project needs, and will advise if a different resource bundle may be more suitable.

I don't know which resource bundle to select. How do I decide?

Read the descriptions of each resource bundle, view the details in the Resource Bundle Table support article, and consider your project needs. Most projects will only require the Standard resource bundle, so this is pre-selected by default. If you change your mind you can later change your resource bundle by submitting an allocation amendment request.
