Security Checklist for Virtual Desktop Service

1. Keep your Virtual Desktop updated 


Run updates regularly to ensure you have the latest security patches. 

If running Ubuntu, RStudio or TERN desktop, you can do this via the Terminal. Navigate to File, Terminal Emulator, then enter the following commands:


sudo apt-get update 

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade


If running CentOS Desktop, you can click the black square symbol in the top menu, which will open the Terminal. Then enter the following command:

sudo yum update check

sudo yum update


2. Keep a Backup of your data 


Regularly make backups of your data. You can do this via our support article here.


3. Encrypt sensitive data 


If using sensitive data on the Virtual Desktop, ensure its encrypted. 


4. Check your software 


Be sure to only install software via the official source/website for the program.
